Job Title: Teaching Assistant Full Time GSRP/Pre-K

Reports to: Child Development Director

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist with day-to-day classroom operations and provide a safe and developmentally appropriate early childhood program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures in harmony with the mission statement and policies of the YMCA of Marquette County

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Assists in routine caregiving needs (feeding, dressing, diapering/toileting)

2. Meet the emotional and developmental needs of each child

3. Assists in establishing and maintaining a learning environment that is engaging, developmentally-appropriate, safe and sanitary

4. Assist with lessons as assigned by Lead Teach or Child Development Director

5. Model, facilitate and explain appropriate child and adult behavior

6. Positively address and redirect inappropriate child behavior

7. Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance

8. Assist with ensuring safety and cleanliness of equipment and facilities

9. At the discretion of the Child Development Director, attend all staff meetings, workshops and seminars to increase knowledge and skills and complete 24 hours of annual continuing education to meet state and national licensing rules and accreditation standards

10. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary

11. Handles and resolves family concerns and informs Child Development Director of unusual situation s or unresolved issues

12. Exemplify the YMCA mission and values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in all aspects of job performance and interactions/relationships with others.

13. Maybe responsible for open and/or closing the center and maintaining security and safety of the premises, including responsible use and secure handling of building key and proper operations of the building security system and maintaining all opening and closing procedures as outlined by classroom binders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 year of age

2. Previous experience and education in Early Childhood Development is desired

3. Must become CPR and First Aid certified.

4. Must provide a negative T.B. clearance

5. Must have Federal fingerprinting done with a clear criminal background.

6. Must take Blood Borne Pathogens, Child Abuse, and YMCA New Employee Orientation training within 30 days of hire

Job Title: Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatic Coordinator or Director

Leadership Level: Leader

POSITION SUMMARY:

Maintains safe and fun swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas. Understands how to build relationships while still maintaining authority in the pool. Must be culturally competent and able to modify communication based on skill and culture. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area.

2. Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.

3. Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

4. Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool area.

5. Arrives for work 10 minutes prior to shift. Wears appropriate uniform (red shirt, black shorts, name tag).

6. Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.

7. Checks the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.

8. Performs chemical testing at appropriate times of the day, as required, and takes appropriate action.

9. Attends all staff meetings and training as required.

10. Administers swim test when necessary to the YMCA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum age of 16.

2. Certifications: Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and First Aid.

3. Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Ability to pass lifeguard water test.

2. Must be able to remain alert.

3. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods.

4. Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals.

5. Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.

6. Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue.

7. Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations.

The custodial staff is responsible for keeping the YMCA building, equipment, and grounds in a safe, clean, and functional manner. The health and safety of our members is paramount. Cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment is critical to our success as a business. The overall impression our guests receive should be positive at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Excellent communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Prior experience in maintenance and/or janitorial work is preferred.
  2. Must have a friendly, outgoing and helpful personality, along with an understanding of working with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to multitask is essential.
  3. Must be able to operate various types of cleaning equipment, including, but not limited to: floor finishers, vacuums, carpet extractors, ladders, and general cleaning equipment and standard hand tools.
  4. Must have good command of the English language to take direction, write work orders, and read and understand chemical labeling and material safety sheets.
  5. Must be able to work in awkward, cramped or poorly lit areas, stand for periods of up to four hours, have sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools and cleaning equipment, and be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  6. Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
  7. Be consistently on time, help substitute. Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.

Job Title: Wellness Center Team 

Reports to: Director of Youth and Wellness 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the supervision of the Wellness Director, Wellness Center Team members will instruct fitness orientations and programming, assist and supervise members in the wellness center, and maintain a safe and clean environment within the wellness center. They will help build community in our organization while emphasizing safety, fun, and effectiveness. Through training, staff will gain general knowledge of all programs, membership, special events, and general facility information needed to answer questions, concerns, and be able to promote all the above to members and guests.   

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Exemplify the YMCA mission and values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility in all aspects of job performance and interactions/relationships with others 
  1. Provide the best customer service to all members and guests visiting the facility by assisting with all comments and concerns people may have and by promoting all programs and services provided by our organization.  
  1. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based their health and well-being goals.   
  1. Competently lead wellness programming as assigned. Correctly complete required paperwork and follow up. 
  1. For safety and for the preservation of equipment monitor wellness to be sure that equipment is being used properly and exercises are being performed correctly. 
  1. Build relationships with members and guests to make them feel welcome and part of our family at the YMCA and the community including completing new member phone calls.  
  1. Participate in on-going training and meeting to better equip yourself and the organization.  
  1. Have knowledge of all facility programs, events, and activities offered by the organization. 
  1. Clean area and correct any safety hazards. Set up and organize equipment and report any problems or needs with equipment to supervisor.  
  1. All other duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Excellent communication skills. 
  1. Experience is some aspect of health, fitness, or wellness is required. An educational background in health and exercise physiology is preferred and obtaining a professional certification is strongly recommended.   
  1. CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within ninety days of employment. 
  1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. 
  1. A desire to help others achieve their goals in health and wellness. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  1. Ability to move or stand for up to 6 hours. 
  1. Ability to operate wellness center equipment and demonstrate aerobic, muscle conditioning and flexibility exercises.
