Committed to Kids
Marquette General Weight Management a service of Marquette General Health System, has launched this fun, interactive program to help youth control their weight and enjoy healthy living. It is geared towards overweight youth ages 7-17. Ideal candidates are motivated to make lifestyle changed that will result in overall wellness. The program includes goal setting in a multi-disciplinary approach including medical, behavioral, nutritional and fitness (led by YMCA Fitness Staff). The group meets weekly for 2 hours at MGHS and have an option of additional day of exercise at the YMCA on Thursdays. The participant's parent (or other adult) will also attend the weekly meeting. The program requires a one year commitment, physician referral and adult involvement.

Youth Fitness Certification
This hands-on program provides youth with the skills and knowledge to use the Wellness Center equipment safely. Once certification has been obtained youth have the privilege of exercising in the Wellness Center without parental supervision. The program is approximately 2 hours.

Womens Self Defense & Rape Prevention
This seminar brings rape prevention and awareness into the 21st century with an effective, realistic approach. The male & female instructors will teach and develop vital self-defense tactics and awareness. Classes will be targeted specifically toward women's strengths and will teach them to use an attacker's weight and power against them. Stand-up, ground fighting, joint locks, rolls, fall breaking, throws, multiple attackers, defense against weapons, and much more.

Monthly Nutrition Seminars
Every month there will be a different topic led by a registered dietician.

Nutrition Education
This service is offered by Marquette General Health System and Bell Memorial Registered Dieticians. An appointment can be set at your convenience to meet with one of the Dieticians at either the YMCA in Marquette or Negaunee. A session would include an assessment of your calorie needs based on your needs and education on how to work the plan into your daily life. Topics range from eating out, healthy cooking tips, and eating on the run, but also include many others. A registered dietician can help with a variety of diet concerns such as but not limited to, diabetes, sports nutrition, high cholesterol, eating disorders and weight loss or gain. Body Composition Analysis
Find out your estimated body fat percentage using skinfold calipers.

Fitness Evaluation
A series of baseline tests will determine your overall fitness level. Includes tests for muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, aerobic endurance, body fat and others (1 hour).

Specialized Fitness Package
The first session of the package includes a fitness evaluation (1 hour). The second session includes a training session based off all of your personal goals and fitness evaluation results (1.5 hours).

Personal Training
Let one of our certified personal trainers help you meet your fitness goals. Trainers can work with you regularly or on a consulting basis to help design and implement an exercise program that is uniquely yours. Your personal trainer will assist and motivate you to maximize your results. A fitness evaluation is required before the first session.

Semi-Private Personal Training
NEW! Get fit with a friend or family member by working with a certified personal trainer (2 participants to 1 trainer). You find a partner (similar fitness level and goals required) and the trainer will guide you both through a motivating, effective workout. Each session is 1 hour. A fitness evaluation is required before the first session (see SEMI-PRIVATE SPECIALIZED FITNESS PACKAGE).

Semi-Private Specialized Fitness Package
Get fit with a friend or family member by working with a certified personal trainer (2 participants to 1 trainer). You find a partner (similar fitness level and goals required) and the trainer will guide you both through a motivating, effective workout. Each session is 1 hour. A fitness evaluation is required before the first session.

What Women Want
Strength training is important for men AND women, but many women are intimidated by weight training or just aren't sure where to start. The class is led by a female certified personal trainer. She'll focus on the typical trouble spots that women want to firm up (abs, arms, butt and thighs). She'll also clarify facts from the myths, teach new exercises, motivate you and make exercise fun. Supplement this class with aerobic conditioning for maximum results.

Quit and Get Fit
Do you smoke? Do you want to quit? Are you afraid your going to gain weight when you quit? Let our program help you quit smoking and get fit! The goal of the program is to help individuals quit smoking and get in shape by providing exercise training and smoking cessation guidance. Quit and Get Fit costs about the same as smoking one pack a day for one month!

X-Press Workouts
We all know how difficult it can be to find time to exercise, and you have to admit, not enough time makes a great excuse. So we've created time-efficient, no excuses 30-minute workouts just for you. Choose from a variety of beginning level workouts (aerobic conditioning, strength training or both) that can be done at any time of the day in our Wellness Center. Whatever your goals are, you can do it here in 30 minutes or less. This is a FREE service for members only.
