September 26, 2011
The YMCA of Marquette County has been selected to receive a Safe Routes to School grant for the 2011-2012 school year. This grant will give the children attending Sandy Knoll Elementary an opportunity to be more physically active, as well as reduce traffic, fuel consumption and air pollution in the vicinity of the elementary school. 100% of students attending Sandy Knoll live within a two mile radius of the school. The goal of Safe Routes to School is to give these students the opportunity to walk or bike to school. While also providing the students a safe bike path to the school. On October 5th 2011 at 7:30am will be the kick off to the event at the Lake Superior Village Youth and Family Center. The second event will be at Sandy Knoll school in mid to late October.
