The YMCA of Marquette County Reached It’s Goal of $120,000

[Marquette, MI December 21, 2011] – Thanks to the generous contributions of the city of Marquette County residents, the YMCA of Marquette County’s community support campaign reached it’s goal of $120,000 to help the Y continue to help those in need learn, grow and thrive. Gifts to the YMCA of Marquette County stay in the community, directly supporting services and programs that have a positive impact on residents right here in Marquette County.
“Many people in Marquette County rely on the essential services and programs the Y offers,” said Lisa Coombs-Gerou, CEO, YMCA of Marquette County. “But we would not be here to serve our neighbors without the support we receive from our members, volunteers, staff, partners and our community at-large. Their support enables us to not only continue with the work we already do, but help expand our reach to more people in need.”
The YMCA of Marquette County launched the community support campaign on April 1st and received financial gifts from 244 people. As a result of the campaign, the Y will be able to help 248 kids have a safe place to learn and build confidence after school; 176 families reconnect and grow together and 776 people have access to education and training to reach their full potential.
As one of the leading nonprofits for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the YMCA of Marquette County depends on financial gifts to do its vital work so that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has an opportunity to receive the support and guidance to learn, grow and thrive. The Y believes that when people have a place to feel welcome, have someone to encourage them, and opportunities to participate in activities that interest them, they are more likely to identify and achieve their personal goals.
“The Y is about moving us all forward and it takes a community that cares to do it,” said Lisa Coombs-Gerou. “Volunteers, members, community leaders and staff are joined together by a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social change can only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. Each year we serve more than 8,137 of our neighbors, helping them grow strong in spirit, mind and body.”
